I’m sure you’ve driven past the Towpath Tennis Center at 2108 Akron Peninsula Rd. in the Merriman Valley, but if you haven’t stopped by you’re going to be amazed at what’s inside and out! Towpath Tennis was originally built in 1967 as the first indoor tennis facility in Northeast Ohio. Current owner Dallas Aleman took over in 1984 and has developed it into the largest specialty tennis/pickleball and retail complex in the area. Over the years, Towpath Tennis has survived multiple floods being at a low point in the Merriman Valley and at one point, Dallas was considering moving to another area. Tennis players and members urged him to stay and he’s continued to grow since then.
With 6 indoor & 2 outdoor tennis courts, and 6 outdoor Pickleball courts which rent by the hour, with both open play and membership options. Towpath Tennis serves adults, junior and kids leagues, lessons and programs. They are the largest retail tennis/pickleball shop in northeast Ohio, and even have 2 tennis lodge rental facilities for events up to 50 people. Located just south of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Dallas is an active member of many conservation groups and on the steering committee of the Cuyahoga Valley Gateway Partnership. He views Towpath Tennis as place where tennis or pickleball players and visitors can experience a sense of well-being, along with a location for special events of all kinds.
I urge you to make a trip or just stop by to see what Towpath Tennis has to offer. Who knows, you might find a new sport to enjoy and one that you can play all year long!
