Strong Schools lead to an even stronger Akron!   Strong schools enable the city to recruit businesses and bring more jobs and opportunities to Akron in order to grow our community.  Akron Public Schools has not had a levy on the ballot for 12 years. My family and I are all graduates of APS, the education we received has helped make us successful, and that's just one reason why I'm supporting and voting yes on Issue 27!

  • So why do our schools need increased funds?
  • Akron Schools are projected to have revenue losses in 2025-2028 due to rising operating expenses and less revenue
  • Even though Akron property taxes have increased, the school district continues to receive the same dollar amount that it received 12 years ago
  • Funds are needed to maintain district operations and to rebuild North High School where enrollment has increased significantly since the last levy and continues to grow.

Cost to Property owners:

  • Bond issue for rebuilding North High School is 1.29 mills, costing property owners $3.83 per month per $100,000 of the assessed property value.
  • The proposed operating levy is 7.6 mills, costing property owners an additional $22 per month per $100,000 of  the assessed property value.

Graduation rates:

  • 87.7% of APS scholars graduated in 4 years ( up from 79.8% in 2018)
  • Post Graduation stats;  62.2% are employed, 45.4% are enrolled in post secondary education, 4.2% are in apprenticeships and 3.1% are enlisted in the military

Akron Public Schools owns 46 School buildings, enrolls over 20,000 students speaking over 50 languages, and employs nearly 4,000 teaching and non-teaching professionals.  APS is an essential asset to Akron's continued  growth and success.  I hope you'll join me in voting Yes on Issue 27!
