Speeding in residential neighborhoods has been a critical concern in the conversations I’ve had with Ward 8 residents. I’ve learned from other council members, that this is an issue across the city.   APD is simply not staffed to enforce speeding everywhere in the city and can only sporadically spend time in each area where speeding occurs. From past experience, and as odd as it seems, we cannot utilize stop signs to slow traffic, unless there is a history of accidents at intersections.

Akron has a few options to “calm” speeding and I’m sure you’ve seen them around Ward 8 and the city.  Each ward gets 2 sets of Speed Tables, Ward 8’s are on Winhurst Drive and N. Pershing. The other option are the Solar Radar Speed Signs and these are located on Thurmont and Portage Path.

I want to represent you on City Council and here’s your first chance to let me know your thoughts on what works best. I have created a 3 question survey below, just click on the link, fill out questions and then Submit. I want to know what to fight for in the 2025 Capital Budget.
