Akron’s newest Fire Station #12 opened on S. Hawkins Ave. on Wednesday Nov. 14th. The new 16,800 sq.ft. state-of-the art station replaces the original Station 12 on West Market that was built in 1952. This is the third new Fire Station built since voters passed Issue 4 income tax increase back in 2017 and Station 12 will keep both West Akron residents and our first responders safe.
You may have seen or met Officer Aaron Brown, with Akron Police Department’s Community Engagement Team at Ward meetings, community events or while he patrols Ward 8. Officer Brown has been with APD since 2002, and with Community Engagement since 2015. There are eight members of this unit, two assigned to each police sector in the city and Officer Brown covers towards 8, 4, 3 and a small portion of Ward 1.
Officer Brown helps to :
Mediate neighbor disputes, identify repeat call/nuisance locations and work with property owners/residents to resolve issues. He assists in setting up and attending block watches, working with city housing, zoning, nuisance division to address, blighted properties and represents APD at community events such as trunk or treat, holiday, ward and neighborhood meetings. Officer Brown also assists with the quick response team which follows up with people who’ve overdosed and offers resources to get them into treatment.
We are extremely fortunate to have Officer Brown watching over all of us in Ward 8 and I value his experience and dedication to the residents of our city.
