City Council received Mayor Malik’s proposed Capital Budget on 12/31 and we are still reviewing the details with department heads. The budget features over $368 million of investments into transportation infrastructure, water and sewer parks, community centers, public facilities, housing, and the economy. 75% of the planned investments are funded by various state and federal sources, 23% of the budget is funded through local sources whether that is income tax, safety and streets funds, general obligation debt, special assessments, and user fees.
Highlights include $500,000 for speeding reduction projects, $22 million in street resurfacing, $1 million for citywide sidewalk program, and $13.5 million for Parks and Recreation. There’s $750,000 for tree planting, $9.6 million for housing and community services and $13.8 million for economic development. A large part of the budget came from your suggestions at ward meetings like our “Capital Budget and You” presentation at last month’s Ward 8 meeting.
